“We play poker all the time. We play it while we’re driving.”

On the N train downtown, I sat directly across a group of four friends. In the middle was an Asian girl with long, wavy hair and an average build, talking to two very blond guys next to her who looked like Nordic twins. She was explaining to the ordinary looking man next to her that those two were obsessed with poker. They vigorously nodded in assent.

“Stop and go traffic, you know?”
“…Well, I’m glad your parents don’t know about that…”

They laughed and kept talking. In about 10 seconds, the blonde guys started up a poker game. One of them shuffled the cards that he’d been carrying the whole time, and the other dug into his bag to find a handful of different coins. Unfortunately, I discovered I was on the wrong train and ran off to switch to a different line.
